The George Mason University Center for Evidence-Based Crime Policy (CEBCP)—within in the Department of Criminology, Law and Society (CLS)—seeks to hire a Research Associate beginning August 25, 2016. The role of the Research Associate will be to support the Executive Director (David Weisburd), Director (Cynthia Lum) and Deputy Director (Charlotte Gill) in all aspects of project management, including managing budgets, administration and personnel for funded projects; and to collaborate with faculty on existing research projects and new grant proposals. Although the incumbent will be working on a variety of projects within the CEBCP, the primary roles of the position will be to support the implementation of field surveys and data collection for funded projects; advance CEBCP's training and technical assistance activities, both externally and internally (e.g., ensuring CEBCP graduate students are trained in key research skills such as data management and crime mapping); and manage core CEBCP activities such as the organization of annual symposia and briefings and the development of Web content.
Must hold at least a master's degree by the time of appointment;
Must have experience of implementing field research, such as door-to-door surveys and conducting training for a diverse range of audiences (including community members, law enforcement and students);
Excellent communication skills for working with multiple criminal justice and community agencies and funders; and
Must also be proficient in data management and statistical analysis using SPSS, SAS, or STATA, and mapping software such as ArcGIS.
Master's or higher qualification in criminology is preferred;
Prior experience of managing grant budgets, writing grant proposals, and/or other project administration (such as developing IRB applications) is strongly preferred;
Organized, responsible and pays attention to detail; and
Has the ability to multitask, is self-motivated and takes initiative, works well with others both inside and outside of the university setting, and is team-oriented.
This is a one-year appointment that may be renewed each year contingent on performance, progress and available funding. Fringe benefits, including health insurance, are included in this position. The starting salary of this position will be $40,000.
