The Department of Criminal Justice & Social Work at the University of Houston Downtown (https://www.uhd.edu/academics/public-service/Pages/default.aspx) invites applications for the position of tenured faculty member and Department Chair. The position would begin in Fall 2017. Typically, department chairs at UHD serve in four-year terms. This is a twelve-month, tenured position at the Associate or Full Professor rank. Salary is competitive with experience and qualifications. The successful candidate will be a goal-oriented individual capable of effectively leading a multidisciplinary department, serving as an advocate of the department at the College and University levels, and advancing the college and university strategic plans https://www.uhd.edu/president/Pages/presidentsoffice-strategicplan.aspx. Candidates should have strong communication skills, an appreciation of and commitment to diversity, and a demonstrated ability to encourage and promote collegiality. The department has 22 full-time faculty with almost 800 undergraduate and graduate majors.
An earned doctorate in the disciplines of Criminal Justice, Criminology, Social Work or related discipline. A Juris Doctorate degree is not sufficient.
Achieved rank of Associate or Full Professor.
A teaching, service, and scholarly record that would merit tenure and appointment at the associate or full professor level at the University of Houston Downtown.
Previous academic administrative experience.
Experience in collaborating and working with community stakeholders.
