General Summary The College of Fine Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Lowell seeks to fill an interdisciplinary position in Security Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an appointment beginning on September, 2017. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Political Science, International Relations, Psychology, Economics, or another field relevant to Security Studies, or provide evidence that the Ph.D. will be completed by the time of appointment. Candidates with research specialization in political violence, security policy, civil wars, intelligence analysis, cybersecurity, contemporary regional security issues, or countering violent extremism are strongly encouraged to apply.
Candidates must demonstrate a record of scholarship and publications in respected peer-reviewed journals, promise for future scholarly productivity, and expertise in advanced quantitative and/or qualitative research methods. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate capacity for procuring and serving as a lead investigator on externally funded research projects, and should also demonstrate potential for interdisciplinary collaboration. Particular consideration will be given to candidates with the potential to collaborate with faculty from our strong academic programs in fields such as computer science and computer engineering, and to contribute to University efforts in the areas of cybersecurity and engagement with both the corporate sector and public agencies. � � � �
Applicants must also demonstrate the ability to teach courses and play a role in the university's degree programs, including its Masters program in Security Studies, which offer concentrations in international security, homeland security, industrial & economic security, critical infrastructure protection, cybersecurity, and weapons of mass destruction. The successful applicants will teach and mentor students in the Terrorism Studies Option track of the Ph.D. in Criminology & Criminal Justice, the Security Studies Masters degree program, and undergraduate students in the School of Criminology and Justice Studies. The successful applicants will also be expected to play a major role in the Center for Terrorism & Security Studies at UMass Lowell, and will be eligible for faculty appointment in the School of Criminology and Justice Studies or the Departments of Political Science, Psychology, Economics, or another University academic unit related to the candidate's discipline.
