Job Purpose:Ensure the safety and security of Hastings College campus, students, staff and visitors by actively patrolling campus, policing student welfare, managing/defusing any issues that may arise, promoting a culture of education, and enforcing all laws and policies. Ensure department appropriately enforces, responds to, manages and follows-up to violations of laws and Code of Conduct. Open and lock all buildings every day/night per schedule, file necessary paperwork and provide regular briefing for the Vice President for Student Life.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Responsible for Active Protection and Measurably Effective Response Required for Safety and Security of the Campus, it’s Residence, Staff and Visitors, including but not limited to:
Identify protection goals, objectives and metrics consistent with the College’s strategic security plan and be the driver of actions to implement the steps to achieve all goals.
Patrol campus, residences and special events.
Enforce laws and policies.
Provide security for situations such as termination, disciplinary actions, etc., as necessary
Oversee the coordination of camera placement and monitoring of facilities.
Monitor cameras as necessary to assist with investigations or to review normal daily functions throughout each facility.
Work with Physical Plant Services and IT departments to ensure security system functionality.
Monitor activity in parking lot and public spaces, as needed.
Promote and ensure adherence to parking lot guidelines.
Responsible for Ensuring Department Operations In Line With Best Practices and Campus Needs, including by not limited to:
Develop a strategic security plan to include well-tested standards, polices, procedures and guidelines relevant to Hastings College.
Oversee the development and implementation of the emergency safety and security management plan, in-line with best practices and federal mandates.
Ensure campus culture that understands and actively follows best practices related to safety and security operations.
Conduct investigations regarding suspected loss, fraud or behavior/actions that compromise the security of any given area, property, person, asset or facility.
Coordinate, schedule and staff operations of the Safe Ride/Bronco Bus program.
Provide support to the Vice President of Student Life, and other college administration, with special projects as requested.
Responsible for Managing Student Safety Issues and Defusing Campus Altercations, including but not limited to:
Serve as contact between students and authorities.
Refer students for disciplinary actions.
Disperse parties, as needed, held in campus facilities or public spaces that violate campus policies, local/state laws or cause general havoc.
Deescalate and stop altercations involving all on campus property.
Responsible for Accurately and Actively Reporting On Department Actions, Occurrences and Procedures, including but not limited to:
Complete nightly activity reports.
Complete incident reports for special situations and actively lead follow-up investigations.
Provide timely security updates to staff, campus, Vice President of Student Life and other college administration based on all situations that need immediate attention.
Track incidents by facility.
Work with Title IX Director, Department of Student Life and local law enforcement to collect, file and report annual institutional and government mandated data.
Responsible for the Physical Security and Safety of Campus Building Operations, including but not limited to:
Open buildings and secure buildings consistently on time per schedules.
Set automatic timers for exterior lighting.
Routinely inspect safety equipment.
Conduct random visits and inspections at all hours of the day and night on week days and weekends to ensure maximum quality and support of security functions.
Create evaluation policies and procedures in relation to physical security of individual facilities and personnel.
Along with Physical Plant Services, issue, monitor and report on access controls.
Supervise Public Safety Staff and Student workers, including but not limited to:
Actively train, manage and focus the efforft of a network on security personnel who safeguard the College’s assests and the physical safety of students, staff and visistors.
Write and present associate evalations in line with Hastings College procedures. Continue to develop department personnel to enhance performance.
Assign, schedule and supervise the work of Public Safety Staff and student workers. Ensure proper coverage for vacation or other absences. Review requests for special services and assign team to work orders.
Review and verify time records for assigned staff. Authorize a change in normal work hours to accommodate after hours work to avoid overtime when possible. Seek advance approval from the Vice President of Student Life in the event overtime may be required by one or more Public Safety Staff.
Prepare “on-call” schedules for after hours special events.
Following consultation with the Vice President of Student Life, or designee, and Human Resources serve and record verbal or written warnings required to redirect or discipline an employee. Recommend more significant discipline up to and including termination.
Serve as a Direct and Positive Connection Between Hastings College and Other Law Enforcement Agencies, including but not limited to:
Ensure strong and positive working relationship with Hastings Police Department, Adams County Sherrif and Nebraska State Patrol and all other law enforcement agencies, as needed.
Coordinate with local law enforcement regarding scheduling or incidents requiring their assistance.
Seek reports, data and information from law enforcement agencies, when necessary, to suplament campus investigations, as documentation of crimes committed at a campus location and/or to aid in the collection and reporting of data.
General Department Duties, including but not limited to:
Learn to use/operate any new job related programs and equipment. Participate in designated meetings and mandatory trainings.
Reconcile invoices for security vendors
Consistently model a high degree of customer service and student focus. Work collaboratively and support other team members.
Professionally represent Hastings College at all times.
All other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field.
A comparable combination of education and experience will be considered.
5-10 years of experience in a law enforcement agency or corprate security director, perfably with superviusory experience. Retired or former honorable discharged vetrans who have comperable miliary experience would be considered.
Licensure or Certification:
Valid Nebraska driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

Basic CPR and First Aid
Knowledge and management of security surveillance systems.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, Power Point, and Google’s Gmail and Google Suite for Education.
Familiarity with safety and security management software.
Ability to stand for prolonged periods at events.
