This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time Campus Dispatcher position for the Department of Public Safety at Oregon State University (OSU).
The mission of the Department of Public Safety is to provide a safe campus for students, faculty, staff, and visitors of Oregon State University; to facilitate Oregon State University's educational, research, and community service goals; and to provide these services with the highest standards of professionalism.
This position will monitor alarm systems; respond to emergency signals and dispatches as appropriate; and to operate the radio, teletype, computer and telephones for the Oregon State University's Public Safety and Oregon State Police Communications Center under the supervision of the OSU Dispatch Supervisor.
DPS Dispatchers are assigned to receive, process and dispatch incoming calls from the general public which require immediate emergency responses by members of the Oregon State Police and the Department of Public Safety on a 24/7 basis. Emergency 9-1-1 calls received at the Benton County 9-1-1 Center that involve an emergency situation occurring on campus are immediately routed to the DPS Dispatch Center for handling. DPS Dispatchers process these emergency requests and dispatch OSP and DPS Officers accordingly.
The OSU Dispatch Center hosts an emergency reporting incoming phone number of (541)-737-7000 that serves the same purpose as the 9-1-1 Emergency phone number that rings into the Benton County 9-1-1 Center.
Students, Faculty and Staff at Oregon State University are advised to call the (541) 737-7000 emergency phone number to report all emergencies.
High school diploma, or equivalent; and Law Enforcement Data Systems (LEDS) certification, OR ability to obtain within 6 months of hire;
AND at least one of the following: - One year of experience in a dispatch position requiring monitoring and tracking the simultaneous use of multiple systems: radio, telephone, computer monitor, or similar communication systems; OR - One year of experience in a public safety environment, or other similar high pressure and demanding environment; OR - Associates degree, or higher, in Criminal Justice or a related field
Must be able to obtain certification for Law Enforcement Data Systems (LEDS) within six months of employment.
Must be able to successfully complete certification in Emergency Medical Dispatch within six months of employment.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OAR 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 24 months.

A background check must be sufficient to support the trustworthiness and reliability determination so that the person performing the check and the Commission have assurance that granting individuals access to Safeguards Information does not constitute an unreasonable risk to the public health and safety or the common defense and security.
Required to work in a confined area, restricted to authorized personnel only.
Works in an area with moderate noise levels caused by equipment and radio transmissions and is restricted to workstation for long periods.
Works varied off shifts (i.e., swing and graveyard); shift work can rotate (every 3 months or as needed), including days, graveyard, relief, and swing shifts. Shifts cover 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Work shift may be on weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
May be required to work extended hours due to emergency situations or increased workload (temporary); required to work during inclement weather conditions and during natural disasters.
