At the direction of the Executive Vice President and Vice President, and in partnership with key leadership across the University and abroad, lead the Public Safety team in providing consistent standards of excellence in fulfilling its core mission of safety and security around campus and across the globe. Serve in a critical leadership role with the planning, development and implementation of strategic initiatives and programs that aim at improving operational synergies and leveraging talent throughout the department. Complete accountability and oversight for the Department of Public Safety’s budget. Oversee, direct and monitor campus safety, operations support, internal affairs investigations, implementation of policies and procedures, training, audits, data analysis, transportation services and Clery reporting. Provide leadership and guidance to senior members of the department and lend technical expertise to the various functions where needed. Demonstrates cultural sensitivity in diverse communities, cultures and team members. Serve as the chief liaison officer with campus partners to promote NYU's interests and gain their support in keeping the NYU community safe.
Required Education: Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Security Administration or Public Administration.
Preferred Education: Master's degree in Criminal Justice or a related field in which strategic planning and analysis is a strong emphasis.
Required Experience: 7+ years' relevant management experience in security and risk analysis, compliance, crime prevention and training delivery in a University, hospitality industry or other complex, diverse institutions.
Preferred Experience: Experience working in other cultures and fluency in a language other than English is a strong preference.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: The ideal candidate will have balanced skills in planning, doing, and reporting. Must be able to quickly master budget, administration, personnel, logistics, process improvement, and measurement. Must be able to develop corrective processes for long lasting change. Skilled at dealing with daily and varied crisis and sensitive incidents and must be able to effectively synchronize the efforts of the response team. Requires close alignment with Executive Vice President's and Vice President's goals to accurately and efficiently represent the Department in their absence. Excellent managerial, verbal, analytical, interpersonal, logic and problem solving skills. Cultural sensitivity and ability to work and communicate effectively across a range of cultures. Strong writing and research skills. Ability to analytically assess effectiveness of a variety of potential solutions to find the best combination of effectiveness toward goals, reliability of performance and financial effectiveness. Excellent judgment, discretion, and ability to maintain confidences are essential. Strong working knowledge of MS Office suite. High degree of comfort in public speaking. Experience supervising and leading large teams and building consensus among colleagues. Cultural awareness and sensitivity, diplomacy, and ability to engage a variety of work approaches to fit different cultural contexts. Domestic and international travel required. Scheduled office hours subject to adjustment as needed to accommodate other time zones.
